When the summer months roll around most of us are happy because we get to enjoy being outdoors but the heat can really be draining and the hot pavement makes it almost unbearable to walk your pup. We live in the south so we have a lot of months with very high temperatures and the weather can be brutal. One important thing to do is to ensure your pet stays hydrated. I highly recommend carrying water during your walks. There are many things you can do to protect your dog’s paws. Here are some easy tips:
Change your schedule: Walk your dog during the cooler parts of the day. This may be early in the morning before leaving for work or waiting until later in the evening when the sun begins to set. While you may need to alter your routine or schedule, your pet will appreciate it.
Avoid the hot pavement: If possible walk your pet on the grass or at the park. Avoiding the hot pavement can protect your pet from heat related paw injuries.
Use a balm or wax: You can purchase paw wax or balms at your local pet store or online. These products can be very soothing.
Purchase socks or booties: Socks or booties can be purchased online or at your local pet store and they are a great option for walking your pet. Not only do they protect your pets paws they can also be very stylish.
Don’t keep your pet inside this summer. They can still go out and enjoy the sunshine. Just be sure to take precaution and protect their precious paws. Do you know any other tips or tricks for heat protection? Connect with us today! J
