As a working mom that stays busy keeping up with two teenagers; I know I have to carve out time to give my pup the attention she needs. The summer months are coming fast and we live in the south, which means that I already know it's going to be a hot one. I have to admit that when it's really hot outside, the last thing I want to do is go outside! However, my pup doesn't want to be stuck inside all day. So, I've already started thinking about creative ways to keep her busy this summer. Here's what I've come up with so far:
1. Doggie Play Dates: One of the things I love most about the military community is that it's easy to connect with others. Reach out to your neighbors or friends who have pets and make a date for them to play. You can also find the local dog park in your city or town and enjoy a summer afternoon.
2. Sprinkler Fun: Sprinkler sets and splash pads are inexpensive and a great way to keep your pet entertained and cool. If you don't have a large yard you can also make a D.I.Y cooling mat. Cooling mats are great for the patio area. My dog loves laying outside soaking up the sun so I'm excited to see her reaction to the sprinkler set I purchased.

3. Frozen Treats: I have two ideas for frozen treats that I'm sure all pets will just love! The first idea is frozen dog treats. My dog loves apples and carrots so I purchased some silicone molds and I've been making her edible treats. There are so many combinations you can try and the best thing is that many only require two or three ingredients. My favorite recipe right now includes carrots and chicken broth. Just combine the two in a blender and freeze for about four hours. Their other favorite frozen treat involves your pet's favorite toys. Freezing items helps your pet stay busy while keeping them cool!
Help your pet beat the heat this summer! These are just some ideas I have, hopefully, your pet will find them entertaining. Oh and don't forget many of the items you need to make frozen treats can be found at your local
Commissary, and while you are there, don’t forget to pick up your pet’s favorite
