It’s Pumpkin Season…Let’s make treats for your pup!

By Lasonja W.

We get excited about pumpkin season and I’m sure your dog does as well. Although you don’t have to wait for the fall; you can make pumpkin treats for your pup throughout the year. Did you know that pumpkin provides Vitamin A and potassium? It is also rich in fiber which is great for digestive health.

Next time you head over to your local Commissary, grab a few cans of pumpkin puree and make some treats for your furry friend. We have two recipes that are super easy to make and only require a handful of ingredients.

Pumpkin and Yogurt Treats

Ingredients:
• 1 cup pumpkin puree (unsweetened)
• 1/2 cup plain yogurt (unsweetened)

Directions:
In a blender combine the pumpkin puree and yogurt. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Carefully pour the mixture into molds.
Place the molds in the freezer and allow the treats to freeze for at least 2 hours, or until solid.

Pumpkin and Broth Treats

Ingredients:
• 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
• 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
• 1/4 cup water

Directions:
In a blender, combine the pumpkin puree, chicken broth, and water. Blend until well mixed.
Pour the mixture into molds.
Freeze for at least 2 hours, or until solid.

These recipes are sure to be a hit! I love using molds because they come in fun shapes such as paws and bones. However, If you don’t have molds you can easily use an ice cube tray instead. Spoil your dog with these homemade frozen treats. For more great recipes and pet info be sure to check out Military Pet Club.
